The main activities of the Institutes are:
Except for the Solvay Conferences, which are by invitation only, the activities of the Solvay Institutes are open to all scientists working in the relevant areas (space limitations, if any, are handled on a first-come first-served basis).
The Institutes can also provide partial support to conferences organized by research groups from the physics or chemistry departments of the ULB or the VUB.
The International Solvay Institutes also co-organize seminars in theoretical physics in collaboration with the Service de Physique Théorique et Mathématique of the ULB, the Theoretical Particle Physics Group of the VUB and the High Energy Physics and Relativistic Field Theory group of the KUL.

The Institutes support additional doctoral training in its research areas - in particular through advanced postgraduate schools.
